This picture was taken at a rally during the 2008 presidential campaign, near the childhood home of the current President Dr. Mohamed Waheed (right). Moments later, he gave an emotional speech on the brutality of the Gayyoom regime, especially on how his mother was humiliated in front of the public for supporting the previous President, Nasir.

Dr. Waheed was sworn in on February 7th after President Nasheed (middle) with whom he ran as the running mate was ousted by what the MDP alleges was a coup.
